Personal, Social and Health Education
PSHE encompasses issues relating to self awareness, self esteem and inter-personal relationships. At Light Oaks Junior School we feel that these issues are central to the education of the whole child and are essential for the development of life skills.
During Key Stage 2, pupils will learn about themselves as growing and changing individuals. They will learn how to communicate their ideas and feelings thus developing as more mature, independent and self-confident young adults. They will learn about the wider community and the interdependence of communities within it. This will lead to a sense of social justice and moral responsibility. They will develop a greater understanding of their own choices and behaviours and how these can affect local, national and even global issues. As they develop into young adults, they face the changes of puberty and transfer to high school.
With the support and encouragement from our school, they will learn how to make more confident, informed choices about their health and environment; to take more responsibility, individually and as a group, and how to resist / stand up to bullying.
